Gorkha, June 26: Fewer children from
Chepang community join higher studies though scholarship programme has been
managed for them for the last 21 years.
The Chepang children have the trend
of receiving scholarship but only a few of them take regular classes in
different schools in Ghyalchowk, Makaising, Taklung, Tanglichowk, Bhumlichowk
VDCs in Gorkha district.
The Chepang children reading in
primary and lower secondary levels get Rs. 650 while students in secondary
level receive Rs. 1,050, and Rs. 2,050 for higher secondary level from the fund
of Rs. 525,000 received from Indigenous Nationalities National Uplift
Foundation, Chepang Development Programme, and the District Development
Committee, Gorkha.
The students are provided with
school uniform, educational materials besides the school fees.
The programme was effective in the
district since the Fiscal Year 2048/2049 BS in the district, said Mahesh Baral,
Local Development Officer.
As many as 1,032 students of 22
schools were provided with the educational materials, this year, said former
lawmaker, Maya Chepang.
A total of 300 students from Chepang
community alone are reading in Tomandanda Secondary School, Bhumlichowk, in
Gorkha. RSS
