Nuwakot, June 25: Locals of Nuwakot
district have called for a district-wide banda for an indefinite period from
today in protest against the government's move to shift the landslide victims
of local Kimtang to Bidur Municipality-based Khamba Camp.
All educational institutions,
markets, industries and factories of the district have remained closed due to
the banda.
The government had made preparation
to shift the landslide victims of Kimtang to Khamba Camp this week. Landslide
has been occurring at Kimtang for long.
The landslides has swept away around
100 houses so far and more than 500 households are at risk of the landslide.
The locals called the district banda
for indefinite period by forming a 'Chandipokhari Khamba Camp Land Protection
Struggle Committee' saying they would not allow the landslide victims to be
settled at the Khamba Camp.
District-based political parties, Nuwakot
Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Civil Society have supported the banda
enforcers.
The locals said that they have launched agitation for the
protection of Khamba Camp, but are not against the landslide victims.
Vehicles heading towards Kathmandu
from Rasuwa via Nuwakot district have been affected due to the banda. RSS
