Nuwakot, June 25: Locals of Nuwakot district have called for a district-wide banda for an indefinite period from today in protest against the government's move to shift the landslide victims of local Kimtang to Bidur Municipality-based Khamba Camp.

All educational institutions, markets, industries and factories of the district have remained closed due to the banda.

The government had made preparation to shift the landslide victims of Kimtang to Khamba Camp this week. Landslide has been occurring at Kimtang for long.

The landslides has swept away around 100 houses so far and more than 500 households are at risk of the landslide.

The locals called the district banda for indefinite period by forming a 'Chandipokhari Khamba Camp Land Protection Struggle Committee' saying they would not allow the landslide victims to be settled at the Khamba Camp.

District-based political parties, Nuwakot Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Civil Society have supported the banda enforcers.

The locals said that they have launched agitation for the protection of Khamba Camp, but are not against the landslide victims.

Vehicles heading towards Kathmandu from Rasuwa via Nuwakot district have been affected due to the banda. RSS
