Kakadbhitta, Jhapa, June 26: Most of the places in Jhapa district are in high risk of flooding as floods make losses of tens of thousand of rupees when rivers inundate paddy in hundreds of bighas of land and turn farmland into river banks.
The whole district is in high risk as floods from Kankai, Biring, Ratuwa and Nanda Rivers have entered the settlements and towns.
There is a risk in 27 places from the main four rivers, said District Disaster Relief Committee and Nepal Red Cross Society Jhapa in a survey report.
Of the rivers originated in Mahabharat and Chure range, Biring is the most dangerous river which inundates Sisne, Sadhutar of Khudunabari VDC, Duli Bandh of Budhabare, Jaruwabasti of Arjundhara, Goru Bazaar entry in Ghailadubba, Lakadikhandi, Chapramari of Surunga, Bharopani of Rajgadh, whole of Gherabari, Radhabasti and Pantapada of Sharanamati, among others.
Kankai has threatened Chauritapu, Tunubasti of Mahabhara VDC, Rangiyathan of Panchgachhi, and Simalbadi of Taganduba.
The Ratuwa river threatens Damak, Lakhanpur, Kohabara and others. Kankai is the second most dangerous and Ratuwa third in the district.
Likewise, Mechi River causes damage in Bahundangi, Jyamirgadhi, Bhadrapur, Maheshpur, and Pathamari, among others.
Beside that, Nanda River also damages Bahundangi and Mechinagar, Hadiya Affects Budhabare, Dhaijan, and Tangting damages other parts of Khudunabari and Arjun Dhara. Kamal Khola is also river to cause damage in the district.
According to studies, some 600,000 population or 75 per cent of the district population is in high risk of floods. RSS
