Ninety-three Baitadi houses at risk of flood

Khalanga (Baitadi), June 24: As many as 93 houses at Dhungad in Baitadi district are at risk of flood in the Seti River, according to a report submittted by a study team.

The District Administration Office (DAO), Baitadi had send a study team comprising representatives of the DAO, police, Red Cross and the District Development Committee for a field study after receiving reports that a branch of the swollen Seti River has entered the settlement, putting the entire village at peril.

The team stated in the report that most of the residents have vacated their houses after a branch of the Seti River entered the village and that 42 houses there were at high risk of flood and erosion. Moreover the flood has damaged the maize, paddy and groundnut crops cultivated on 552 ropanis land at Dhungad, besides washing away different infrastructures as drinking water, irrigation canals and watermills in the village. The damage is estimated at Rs 15 million. RSS
