Kathmandu, June 11: The First National School Sports (Junior Championship) organized by N-PABSAN, PABSON, and HISSAN under the Aegis of National Sports Council (NSC) has kicked off.
As per the schedule of the championship, various competitions under athletics, cricket, and Kabaddi began from today.
The officials of the NSC, N-PABSAN, PABSON, HISSAN, and students of five development regions organized a rally today on the occasion. The rally started from Basantapur and concluded after it reached Dasharath Stadium.
Different teams of students below 16 years from all five development regions have been participating in all the three games.
Twenty gold medals including 16 for athletics are up for grabs in the championship, said Chairperson of the N-PABSAN, Gita Rana. Only track events have been included in the athletics, added Rana.
The athletics events are being organized at Dasharath Staduim, cricket at Pulchowk Engineering Campus, and kabaddi at Tripureshwor based Covered Hall of the NSC.
NSC member secretary Yuvaraj Lama, inaugurated the games.
The formal inauguration of the Junior Championship, however, will be held formally on Friday amid a grand programme. It is estimated that around Rs 1.05 million will be needed to conclude the games. The national school sports have included 13 games.
HISSAN has got the responsibility to conduct volleyball, table tennis, swimming, badminton, and basketball while PABSON the responsibility to conduct bagchal, wushu, chess, karate, and football, said Chief of the School Sports Development Department, Kul Bahadur Thapa.
There will be open competition in swimming, table tennis, badminton, bagchal and chess. The championship will be concluded on June 18. RSS
