Kathmandu, July 2: The 90th birth anniversary of former President of the Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister, Girija Prasad Koirala, was celebrated here today by recalling his contribution to increase the image of the party and to bringing the then UCPN (Maoist) into peaceful politics.
The NC has been observing the birth anniversary of the late Koirala every year today by organizing a variety of programmes.
On the occasion, NC Kathmandu District Working Committee, today planted saplings at Sahid Park, Ratna Park.
At the function, NC General Secretary, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, expressed the view that the country became a republic as a result of the significant contribution of late Koirala.
Sitaula said that leader Koirala make a big sacrifice to establish Nepal as a republic, to hold the election of the Constituent Assembly (CA) and to bring the then UCPN (Maoist) into the peace process.
Similarly, NC Kathmandu District President, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, claimed that his party would win majority of the seats in Kathmandu in the upcoming CA elections. RSS
