Kathmandu, July 3: The government is to pursue commercial rice cultivation programme in three districts from next fiscal year.
The Ministry of Agriculture Development is starting the commercial cultivation of rice in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts. It said the programme is being launched with the objective so that farmers from other districts would be able to study the commercial production of paddy.
The programme is aimed at bringing new concept in the production sector and to encourage the farmers towards rice cultivation accordingly, Spokesperson at the Ministry, Dr. Prabhakar Pathak, said.
Pathak said that the scheme would be implemented in the three districts as a campaign in the form of a model project as it has become necessary to bring new programmes and plan for boosting production.
These three districts are the top rice producing districts in the country. These three districts together produce two million metric tonnes of rice while the total production of the country is 5.2 million metric tonnes worth Rs. 100 billion. RSS
