Bhadrapur (Jhapa) July 7: As much as 50 per cent paddy transplantation has been completed in Jhapa district with the continuous rainfall and regular supply of irrigation water from Kankai canal.
The farmers are not feeling shortage of water in the area for paddy transplantation.
Paddy transplantation is done in some 88,000 hectares of land in the district.
Among them 36,400 hectares of land has full irrigation facility, 11,500 hectares of land has semi irrigation facility and 41,000 hectares of land is out of irrigation facility.
The farmers are hit hard due to lack of workers for the plantations. Even by paying Rs. 300 as wage and by providing meals, they have not got enough workers, said Babu Lal Sahani, a farmer.
The paddy production was increased in the district in comparison to the other districts last year. As much as 320,590 metric tons of rice was produced in the district last year, said the District Agriculture Office. RSS
