Houses in Nepalgunj at High Risk of Earthquake

Nepalgunj, July: 4: Ninety-five per cent of the houses in Nepalgunj Municipality are at high risk of earthquake. Only five per cent houses are constructed as per the earthquake resistant technology and engineering standard, it is learnt.

Though the municipality has the policy to construct only earthquake resistant houses and structures in the municipality, the decision to implement this policy had to be withdrawn after much public pressure against this decision.

According to the municipality, all of the one-storied to seven-storied houses here do not conform to the earthquake resistance building standards. RSS
