Bhadrapur, July 9: Majority of the areas of Jhapa district remains waterlogged due to heavy rainfall here since the past few days.

Likewise, a large number of commuters remain stranded after a part of the East-West highway was washed away by the flood water from the Geuriya river in Lakhanpur-2 this morning.

People travelling to Jhapa and onwards from faraway places including the capital remain stranded in Lakhanpur since the section of the highway was swept away at 7:00 this morning.

Meanwhile, the Ratuwa river too has been inundating land and posing risk to settlements in Ward no. 2, 17, 18 and 19 of Damak municipality, according to the Area Police Office, Damak.

The Charlali-Chandragadhi road is also submerged in water up to three feet while flood water from nearby rivers have waterlogged dozens of VDCs in the district including Mahabhara, Paanchgachi, Kohabara, Khajurgachi, Shivagunj and Baigundhura.

Majority of the public schools in the district also remain closed today due to the heavy downpour. RSS
