Janakpurdham, July 24: Chairperson of the National Women's Commission (NWC), Sheikh Chandtara, has said that the victims of violence against women lack access to justice due to the lack of victim-friendly environment.

She was speaking in a programme of discussion organised by NWC here. Others who expressed their views on the occasion accused the police administration of being an obstacle to women having prompt and effective access to justice.

They blamed the police administration of shutting the door to women victims for filing complaints and FIRs. They also said that the police had its own format for registering complaints on violence against women (VAW) and its own analysis which prevented the victims from having access to justice.

The participants of the programme also drew the attention of the authorities towards the increasing incidents of foetecide at local nursing homes.

Government attorney Parameshwar Parajuli said that the victims were dissatisfied with the contents of the case papers prepared by police. RSS
