MoE brings Library management Guidelines into practice

Kathmandu, July 7: The Ministry of Education has introduced the Community and Public Library Management Guidelines to make libraries systematic.

As per the Guidelines, the community library which was so far registered as per the Company Registration Act would also get approval for registration from the District Education Office.

Library Division Chief at the Ministry, Under-Secretary Punya Ghimire, said that the Guidelines has been introduced to fulfill the absence of a clear policy to manage the around 800 libraries across the country.

Ghimire said that a Central Coordination Committee has been formed under the coordination of the Education Secretary to oversee the implementation of the Guidelines.

Chairman of Nepal Community Library Association, Basudev Dhungana, welcomed the introduction of the Guidelines.

He suggested that 'one village, one library' policy should be introduced and demanded that the government allocate necessary budget for library.

The Guidelines were prepared by a team led by former Chief of the Keshar Library, Bhola Prasad Shrestha. RSS
