NA BEGINS RESCUE WORKS IN FLOOD –AFFECTED AREAS IN SUNSARI

Kathmandu, July 9: A team of Nepal Army has been deputed to carry out rescue works in the flood-affected areas in Sunsari and Jhapa districts in the east of the country.

Many human settlements in different parts of the district have been inundated due to floods in the local Budhi River, Tyangra River and Seuti River triggered by rainfall.

  The Budhi River lies seven kilometers south of Itahari, Tyangra is located seven kilometers southeast of Itahari whereas Seuti lies three kilometers east of Dharan. According to the NA Public Relations Directorate, a team from the Batuk Battalion has been mobilized in the flood-affected areas for rescue operations. The Radhakrishna Temple that lies some one kilometer south of Itahari has been inundated. Likewise, flash flood in the Deuli River has swept away a culvert at Lakhanpur-2 and entered the village, the NA said.

Meantime, an NA helicopter has dropped 7,350 kilogrammes of rice from Dattu to Khalanaga in the far western region that was hit by the devastating flood recently. With this, the task of transporting some 300,000 kgs of rice stored in the Nepal Food Corporation, Dattu depot to the flood-hit areas has been completed, the NA said. RSS
