Kathmandu, July 10: A two-hour-long sit-in was organized on the road in front of Prime Minister's Official Residence at Baluwatar from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, today.
Various indigenous nationalities, Buddhist people, religious leaders had participated in the sit-in organized in the coordination of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN).
The sit-in was organized to protest the government excesses while building a Buddha statue at Kankre Bihar premises in Surkhet district on the occasion of the 2557th Birth Anniversary of Lord Buddha, said NEFIN Vice-chairman Dandu Sherpa.
The statue has been kept at the District Police Office, Surkhet, following the dispute among the locals whether or not to establish it in the area.
The NEFIN had also submitted a three-point memorandum to the government demanding that the dispute regarding the establishment of Buddha statue be settled soon, according to Samyukta Sarokar Samiti of the Buddhists. RSS (
