Falebas (Parbat), July 9: The District Police Office, Parbat has launched a drive to clean up marijuana – an illicit drug used for euphoric effect – in different parts of the district.

The police have launched the campaign since last Monday to destroy marijuana cultivated along the highway sides and agriculture farms after the rise in the number of marijuana users.

A team headed by Sub Inspector at District Police Office, Parbat Bishnu Bahadur Thapa destroyed marijuana farming in various parts of Shivalaya and Khurkot VDCs.

The police squad cleaned up strong smelling marijuana plants in the area from Chhamarke of Shivalaya VDC to Nayapul of Khurkot VDC.

Around 500 plants of marijuana were destroyed along the highway sides and adjacent areas, said Police Inspector Jagat Bandhu Pokharel.

'The drive was launched before the marijuana was prepared considering high chance that local youths may go collect and consume the banned drugs', Pokharel added.

The police had also launched such marijuana clean-up drive in the areas during yesteryears.

The campaign will be given continuity to protect youth from getting into drugs abuse, police said. RSS
