Biratnagar, July 5: Two persons including a ranger were arrested on the charge of smuggling timber in the district.
Ranger Mohammad Sallaudin Ansari of District Forest Office, Morang and Hari Niroula of Letang were arrested for their alleged involvement in smuggling timber from the Janasewa Community Forest in Letang of the district. They are currently under custody at the Area Forest Office, Belbari.
The accused were arrested by the Area Police Office, Letang along with 54 cubic feet of timber, police said.
Niroula however told Chief of the Area Forest Office, Belbari Ashok Jha that he was transporting the timber following verbal approval of the Ranger.
We have lately increased patrolling following reports of widespread smuggling of timber from various community forests in Morang district, said Police Inspector Bhupendra Karki at the Area Police Office, Belbari.
The Area Forest Office Chief Jha said action as per the law would be taken against the timber smugglers and the official patronizing the timber smugglers.RSS.
