Kathmandu, July 10: Police have seized 35 kilogrammes of gold imported illegally from Khasha, China, and on the way to India from Koteshwor in the Capital.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of Nepal Police seized the amount of gold acting on a tip-off while it was being carried hiding in the front part of a container making false bottom.The price of the gold in domestic market is Rs. 175 million, stated police.
The gold was seized in 35 tablets of one kilogram each from the container (Ba 3 Pa 2570) which arrived in Kathmandu from Khasha through Tatopani border, said Prakash Aryal, Director of the CBI and Deputy Inspector General of Police.
According to the CBI, police arrested container driver Neema Chhiring Tamang, 24, of Tatopani VDC-8, Sindhupalchowk district, in connection with his involvement in the case.
Police have been carrying out investigation to find out the mastermind of the incident through him. CBI claimed that some of the persons involved in the case have already been identified.
Police is yet to ascertain the details about the goods and its owner as it was sealed by the Tatopani Customs Office, Sindhupalchowk.
