Birgunj, July 2: Agro scientists and experts have suggested farmers to use only the seeds that were prescribed after being certified by the Nepal Agriculture and Research Council (NARC) to ensure an increase in agro production and productivity.
At a programme organised by Sugarcane Crop Research Programme, Jitpur, here today, they stressed that the government should bring quality seeds production friendly policy to displace the imported seeds.
They urged famers to use quality seeds prescribed by NARC as the imported seeds are not suitable for the country and they could also invite the problem of such seeds not bearing the fruit.
On the occasion, Coordinator of the Sugarcane Crop Research Programme, Jitpur, Rewati Raman Chaudhary said that quality seeds should be made accessible to the farmers. Chaudhary urged farmers to give special attention for quality seeds production to make the country self dependent in food grains.
Likewise, Chief of the District Agriculture Development Office, Bara, senior agriculture officer, Kamalesh Tiwari and senior crop development officer of Parsa, Bijay Kumar Shreevastav said that such programmes would help bring reforms in traditional and subsistence agriculture system.
They stressed on the need of investment, physical infrastructure development, use of proper technology, fulfilling of skilled human resources and organizational capacity development and high-level support, coordination and collaboration among bodies concerned to make the programme more effective and result-oriented.
Technical Officer of the programme, Ram Krishna Rajak, said that a total of 12 metric tonnes of improved mother seeds were produced from four hectares of land at Chhatapipara and Belba last year as per the seed growth programme.RSS
