Saptari, July 10: A normal life has been badly affected in various Village Development Committees (VDCs) in Saptari district due to the inundation caused by flood in different local rivulets following the incessant rain.

Thousands of houses and land under cultivation have been inundated by floods. Over a thousand houses at Portaha and Bhardaha VDCs have been inundated as the dam on the local Mahuli Khola rivulet caved in due to flood on Tuesday.

Locals said that thousands of bighas of cultivated land has been waterlogged and the fishes in fisheries in the area have been washed away by flood.

Vehicular movement on the East-West highway in the area was obstructed for four hours from 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday due to the flood. Four feet deep water was flowing over the highway at places, it is stated.

Similarly, the embankments on the Sundari Khola rivulet at Barmajhiya VDC were also damaged by flood on Tuesday morning. As a result, flood water from the river has inundated nearly a thousand houses in the area.

It has been raining continuously for three days in the district. RSS
