Kathmandu, July 9: Visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has held separate meetings with the leaders of major political parties on Tuesday.
Khurshid who arrived here this morning held the meetings before returning home this evening after wrapping up his one-day official visit.
During the meeting held at Dwarika's Hotel in the capital, Khurshid discussed about Nepal-India relations and Nepal's upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election with the leaders of UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and Madhes-based parties.
After the meetings, the leaders said that India's External Affairs Minister wished for institutionalization of democracy after successful completion of the CA election, peace, prosperity and development.
During the meeting with the NC leaders, Khurshid said that only CA election would ignite Nepal's development, stability and prosperity and India wants completion of the CA election in a favorable environment with support from all sides, NC's General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said.
"India is ready to support for Nepal's CA election. Indian people and government want to see completion of CA election in Nepal," Sitaula quoted Khurshid as saying.
NC Acting President Ram Chandra Poudel, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Sitaula, central leaders Minendra Rijal, Ram Sharan Mahat, Shekhar Koirala, Bimalendra Nidhi and others were present at the meeting with Indian Minister Khurshid.
Likewise, after the meeting UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that discussions were held regarding the international community and India's support for Nepal's CA election as making historic success of the CA election was their commitment.
"International community is supporting. There is also India's goodwill, assistance and support and India wants success of CA election at any cost," Khanal told journalists after the meeting.
He said he also expressed happiness to India's goodwill and the existing Nepal-India relations would be further strengthened from Khurshid's visit.
Chairman Khanal, leaders Bharat Mohan Adhikari and Surendra Pandey, among others were present on the occasion.
Likewise, Khurshid also held meeting with the leaders of Madhes-based political parties. The meeting dwelt on CA election, bilateral interests and Nepal's latest political condition.
After the meeting, coordinator of the High-Level Police Committee Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar said Khurshid told them that India was ready to extend all sorts of support for Nepal's CA election.
Mainly he paid attention to the election of meaningful CA, Gachchhadar added.
India has also wished for participation of all parties in CA election, he said.
Gachchhadar, Mahantha Thakur, Upendra Yadav, Mahendra Yadav, Anil Kumar Jha, Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta, Raj Kishor Yadav and Jitendra Dev, among others represented the Madhesi parties at the meeting. RSS
